Harnessing the Relationship between the Community and Barbers to create Healthcare Connections
The Barbershop Connections is a collaboration in Washtenaw county between local shops, community groups and the following organizations involved:
- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan
- Michigan Department of Health and Human Services
- Packard Health
- Trinity Health IHA
- University of Michigan Health
Our mission is to harness the special relationship community members have with barbers to educate about blood pressure concerns and connect people to local health care resources.

Meet our Community Liason
Marcus is the Community Health Worker & Community Liaison for the Barbershop Connections. Marcus is currently a dual degree graduate student at the University of Michigan working towards his Master of Social Work and Master of Public Health. His role will be to communicate with participants of the Barbershop Connections and assist in connecting them with healthcare services. He is originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan and went to Michigan State University for his undergraduate degree. In his free time he enjoys watching sports, exploring local record shops, and trying out new restaurants.
