Developing a Postpartum Mood and Anxiety Disorder (PMAD) is the most common complication of childbirth, impacting around 20% of birthing people. Unfortunately, PMADs are underdiagnosed and undertreated, which has a lasting impact on parents and their children. In this presentation, participants will learn the difference between PMADs and "baby blues," how to identify common symptoms of PMADs as they present in primary care, common risk factors for developing PMADs, and how to thoughtfully speak about PMADs and their impact. In addition, participants will receive information about effective, evidence-based screenings and interventions to use when working with patients with PMADs.
