Practice Sessions are a safe place for Care Managers to practice MI Skills, ask questions and learn from one another. The learners can pick from 11 activities that deal with OARS, DARN, CAT in different scenarios. Some activities use guided questions which can be great for novice learners; the questions can be saved and used with patients. Other activities use real life examples (something a participant wants to work on or decision they are trying to make) while the other participant practices MI skills using OARS and listening for change talk. Real-life examples allow the learners to experience how effective MI can be. Feedback is offered by each group for further listening. Other activities utilize statements and learners will provide reflections, complex reflections and or distinguish if not change talk, preparatory change talk or mobilizing change talk. During these sessions, Care Managers are also asked if they are working with any challenging patient situations that the group may be able to help with OR perhaps that will dictate which activity is chosen.
